GERACI SICULO

GERACI SICULO

Walking through the narrow alleys and the stone courtyards, you are enveloped by the feeling that time has stopped here, that you are in the Middle Ages.

The moral winner of the Borgo dei Borghi 2020 award, the Madonite town, Geraci Siculo, has a lot to offer. The medieval village is located 900 meters above sea level and overlooks the fascinating Cefalù. Walking through the narrow alleys, the stone courtyards, and observing the intact architecture of the historic buildings and churches, you are enveloped by the feeling that time has stopped here, that you are genuinely in the Middle Ages.

In the mid-200s, the noble Ventimiglia family of Ligurian origin elected it as a county, thus becoming one of the most important noble families. The splendor of the family is recalled every year with the Giostra dei Ventimiglia. The event is characterized by chivalrous games and scenes of everyday life, with the participation of citizens in costume, who with great enthusiasm show scenes of daily life and traditions of those times.

There is also a legend: a member of the Ventimiglia family, Francesco, attempting to escape from the king's army, against which he had opposed, decided to jump off a rocky cliff, riding his steed, finding his death.
In honor of him, the municipality installed a transparent glass balcony in that particular place, from which you can admire a spectacular view of Etna and the Aeolian Islands. The balcony's name is Salto di Ventimiglia, evoking the unfortunate episode of the nobleman.

In addition to the breathtaking panorama and the traditions that embellish its history, Geraci Siculo is surrounded by Madonie Park's stunning setting. Be welcomed by the numerous farmhouses that offer local gastronomic excellences not to be missed.

So if you love walking surrounded by nature, learn about ancient arts, and tasting Sicilian delicacies, write to us at info@majolicatravel.com. You will discover a Sicily different from the usual, more honest, green, and sustainable.

Geraci Siculo is present in our Majolica Sicily Tours Collection 2022-23, in The Charming Villages Tour. Contact us for more details and discover the collection.
