Essential information for travelers visiting Sicily.

WHEN TO VISIT
Sicily is beautiful year-round, but the best times to visit are:

Marialuisa’s tip: If you're looking for a balance of good weather and tranquility, May or October are simply perfect.
Coastal areas enjoy a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters.
Inland towns (like Ragusa, Enna, or the Madonie) can be cooler and windier, especially in winter.
Mount Etna and the hills may surprise you with snow in the colder months!

GETTING AROUND
While Sicily has trains and buses, they don’t always reach remote areas or work well for flexible travel.
For comfort and time-saving, we always recommend private drivers or guided transfers, and we arrange all of it for you!
By air: The island has 4 main airports – Palermo (PMO), Catania (CTA), Trapani (TPS), and Comiso (CIY). Palermo and Catania are the busiest and best connected to Europe and beyond.
By ferry: Daily ferries connect Sicily to the mainland (Naples, Reggio Calabria, Salerno) and other Mediterranean islands.

Frequently Asked Questions about SICILY
Yes, Sicily is generally a very safe place for travelers, including solo female travelers. As in any tourist destination, it's always smart to stay aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings in crowded areas.
Tap water is safe to drink throughout Sicily, though many locals and travelers prefer bottled water for taste. In restaurants, water is usually served bottled (still or sparkling).
In major towns, hotels, and tourist areas, many people—especially younger generations—speak English. In smaller villages, English may be limited, but Sicilian hospitality always finds a way. We also work with English-speaking guides and drivers to make your experience smooth and comfortable.
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, especially in cities, hotels, and restaurants. However, small shops, cafés, or markets in rural areas may prefer cash, so it’s good to carry some euros with you.
It depends on the season:
Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service. At restaurants, rounding up the bill or leaving 5–10% is common. Drivers, guides, and hotel staff also welcome tips as a gesture of appreciation.
Absolutely! Sicilian culture is very family-oriented, and children are welcomed warmly everywhere. Many of our private tours can be tailored for families with kids, including fun experiences like cannolo-making, boat rides, and even treasure hunts in ancient towns.
Yes, vegetarian, gluten-free, and other dietary needs can usually be accommodated, especially if communicated in advance. Sicily’s cuisine is very seasonal and flexible. Let us know your needs and we’ll handle everything with care.
